Your unique pair of Naginata Kote, made from scratch at our Factory

The Tozando group factory in Iwate has been producing Naginata Kote for decades (the famed Mitsuboshi Naginata Kote come from this factory).
Our craftspersons know their trade, and they will be happy to provide you with this special pair made to you own measurements and specifications
A question? A special request? Please contact our team for any advise.

Chose material and finish for all Kote parts

Choose you own balance of Protection, Rigidity and Durability by picking a stitching.
And add a further touch by choosing thread colors (Kazari-ito, Matsuri-ito, Yabane...)

Why Naginata Kote have a finger?

Unlike Kendo, Naginata techniques involve a lot of changing of hand position on the weapon's long handle.
You must be able to smoothly slide the Naginata forward (kuridashi) or back (kurikomi). In Naginata, you will also often reverse hand position (mochikae) as you change Kamae. Naginata has both left AND right Chudan no Kamae for example, and it is the same with all the other stances (Jodan, Gedan, Hasso, Waki)!
Having separated finger helps with all this manipulation of the Naginata.

Why is there no Full Orizashi Naginata Kote?

Orizashi is a thick fabric that must be hemmed all around. Due to the numerous parts involved in a Naginata Kotegashira (fist part) construction, using Orizashi would involve costly craftsmanship for a very uncomfortable result, as the space between fingers would be ungainly thick and rigid. It is possible to make Orizashi finished forearm futon and joint, with other materials for the Kotegashira.
