I plan to order a bokken. Can you give me information on the manufacturers? What is Miyakonojo?
Last Updated: 2018-07-18
Miyakonojo refers to an area in Kyushu where there are several traditional workshops located that make wooden weapons for martial arts.  There are four in total and we work closely with three of them: Nidome Workshop, Aramaki Workshop and Horinouchi Workshop.  The craftsmen who work at these places are amazing; everything is made from locally sourced woods and are handled by family craftsmen.  These workshops do not deal directly with customers so it is very difficult to get there works outside of Japan except through certain retailers like Tozando.
