Most wooden guns used in jukendo are made from bamboo leaf oak or Japanese evergreen oak. Junior high school-age students are advised to use a wooden gun that is 166cm long and over 1.1kg in weight. Elementary school students and younger should use a wooden gun that is 133.5cm long, and weighs over 800 grams. The tip of the wooden gun features a rubber piece, called tanpo, attached to it. The tanpo is a tool used to soften the impact of jabbing moves, with the priority of safety in mind.
