The ultimate Kote for the top level shiaisha!

These kote are extraordinarily light and flexible and they also sport a very striking appearance.

The palms, white in color, are made of very soft and sensitive synthetic leather. The kote-buton is 5 mm crisscross stitched in squares. This makes it exceptionally adaptable to the wearer. The wrist is fully mobile and is decorated with orange stitches that recall the orange kazari ito on the knuckles.

These kote are built for top performance in shiai, while being also very attractive.

They were first custom made for Yamamoto Mariko, winner of the All Japan Ladies Championship held in September 2013 and now they are available for all Tozando customers!

It must be noted that Yamamoto Mariko also wore these Kote when the Japanese Team won the 16th World Kendo Championships in Tokyo 2015!

What the right kote can do for you…

In my career of shiaisha I must admit I never afforded the luxury of having dedicated kote just for competition. For every day keiko, I always cared about having rather sturdy and durable kote, that usually took some weeks, if not months, to soften and become really comfortable. I would keep a pair especially for Championships or Taikai, but I would always go for the same features: strength and durability – and some stubbornness, too.

Seeing and trying on the kote that Yamamoto Mariko, winner of the last All Japan Ladies Championship ordered and had custom-made by Tozando, I must admit that my no-nonsense attitude towards kote faltered a little. “So this is the way top level competition players treat themselves in Japan”, I thought.

First of all, they look beautiful. Blame it on the fact that I love orange (…), I immediately fell in love with the orange braiding on the knuckles and on the wrist. The white palm gives them an immaculate look – which I doubt would last long – but makes them surely attractive and different.

I tried them on and impression was to have lost a minimum in mobility, both of wrist and fingers. These are kote made for performance, for someone who is able to apply all the possible angles of strike. It has to be mentioned that they are also exceptionally light. I would not recommend them for heavy duty practice playing motodachi for beginners. They are a thing of beauty, as a Ferrari, and should be worn by those who know how to handle them and are bound to reach the top speed.

Born to be worn by "number ones", they are a real temptation for anyone.

5 of 5 Pretty good custom kote June 13, 2020

I have received them only two weeks ago and I already can see the improvement in my accuracy! These kote are much more flexible then those I used before and allow for much more freedom of movement around the wrist.  Lets see how they hold up over time.
