Hattori Hanzo (1542 - 1596), also known as Hattori Masanari, was a famous Samurai of the Warring States era. Born a vassal of the Matsudaira (later Tokugawa) clan, and served Tokugawa Ieyasu; he would later earn the nickname Oni-Hanzo, Hanzo the Demon, because of the fearless tactics he displayed in his operations.

Hanzo was an extremely skilled swordsman, tactician and spearman and fought his first battle at the age of 16, went on to serve at the battles of Anegawa (1570) and Mikatagahara (1572), but his most valuable contribution came in 1582, following Oda Nobunaga's death.

To this day, artifacts of Hanzo's legacy remain; the Tokyo Imperial Palace still has a gate called Hanzo Gate, and the Hanzo-mon subway line which runs from central Tokyo to the southwestern suburbs is named after the gate. Hanzo remains now rest in the Sainen-ji temple cemetery in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The temple also holds his favorite spears and his ceremonial battle helmet.

This Hattori Hanzo Koshirae is the reproduction of his best favorite sword, Ko Bizen Kanehira. The sand-casted, extra-reinforced zinc/aluminim alloy blade features the typical Kanehira's double Suguha Hamon. The Koshirae fitting is extraordinary. The Saya end features the extra big, barrel type O-jiri metal ornament and it has the traditional Tsuchime finish, that is, a hammered pattern design. The Fuchi/Kashira set is made of copper with Eboshi(formal headwear for court nobles in Japan) and has the Tsuchime finish as the O-jiri. With the Hanzo's fighting spirit in mind, the large metal Koiguchi reinforcement is also featured. The metal Koiguchi is made of copper and has the Tsuchime finish, too. Saya is black matte finish(Kuroishime).
  • A sand-casted, reinforced zinc/aluminum alloy blade with reproduction of Kobizen Kanehira's Hamon
  • Approximately 910 gram without the Saya(for 2.45 Shaku)

3 of 5 Don’t know what to say. Mixed review. April 14, 2019
Reviewer: Ioannis Pennant from London, LND United Kingdom
As I have not yet received my sword from tozando I cannot rate the product but I can rate the process and service.
Very slow, I ordered my sword at the begging for of December and I’m only getting it now 14th/April after 4 months. They were bad in keeping me up to date on what was going on.
Not to say the problems I have had with getting the arid as the shipping couriers from Japan messed everything up.
If you would ask me if I would order from town do again or recommend I would be hesitant and depending on what the product was maybe yes or maybe no.
They need to improve on keeping in touch and stick to the original shipping date.
As said previously I’m gettong it now where as they said I would be getting it by mid to end of March and a month later I still don’t have it.
Personally I would order again but I would expect a better service and experience with extra incentive as this one was not that good and now they have to show me that they can do better.

5 of 5 Replica Hattori Hanzos November 29, 2018
Reviewer: Gregory Donoghue from Bradenton, Florida U.S.
The Quality is exceptional. I would have preferred one with a sharp blade, but since this is a replica, I am satisfied with the overall quality and workmanship as a display item. It is not a toy, but made with craftmanship and attention to detail.
