Oval Octagonal-grip Koto-style Shinai - Oniyanma

Alternative Views:

This is a Oval Octagonal-grip Koto-style Shinai. The oval silhouette of the Tsuka and the edges of the octagonal shape make this Shinai very easy to grip and imitates the feel of holding a "real sword". This type of Shinai is great for Suburi but also for people who have problems with their gripping strength, promoting the proper way to grip a Shinai. Since it's also slightly thicker than a regular oval shaped Shinai, it's also good for people with bigger hands.

The Koto-style shape of the Shinai gives it a very evenly distributed weight and balance, making it preferred by higher level practioners.

4 of 5 Faulty shinai ? January 15, 2020
Reviewer: Egehan Nalbant from Strasbourg, Alsace France
I was first quite satisfied by the good feel of the shinai. Well balanced, though the grip was a bit too thick, it gave a great feeling for the hasuji.

But then, after two trainings, the shinai broke in the strangest of ways. The front slat, the one facing my away from the tsuru cracked in the middle.

Not even splinters on the sides, or things breaking on the sides since that would be the damage of regular use.

In it’s current state it is too dangerous to use, despite being oiled when received and proper care.

The only one with an oval octagonal tsuka  that is not dobari.
Very good for control with the wrist.
The tsuka is equal a 28 mm round.
It's my best shinai at this day
