Information Technical Specs.
This model is inspired by the story that legendary Miyamoto Musashi carved a bokken out of an oar, on his way to his famous last duel against Sasaki Kojiro at the Ganryu Island. Being long, wide and heavy, it is great for strengthening Suburi training. In the middle of the blade there is two engravings that says "The Oar Bokken used by Miyamoto Musashi at Ganryujima" (right side when holding) and "This (piece) is 4 Shaku 1 Sun 9 Bu"(left side when holding). The Bokken even comes with the marks from the nail used to attach the "oar" to the back of the boat, so this piece is not simply a Bokken, but this model is also a realistic reproduction of the Bokken.
Made with Japanese Red Oak, comes with a urethane coating. A variety of wood selections and finishes are available upon request.
What is Japanese Red Oak?

The Red Oak Wood used for Japanese Bokken, also called 'Akagashi', greatly differs from the Red Oak Wood referred to when speaking about North American Bokken.
While the North American Oak and Japanese Oak are related, the Japanese Oak tree is evergreen, due to this it does not have a conspicuous open grain like the American White and Red Oak.
The open grain structure, of the American Oak wood produces soft areas which are more prone to impact damage.
Akagashi on the other hand has a structure that is uniformly hard, has excellent dent resistance and has better impact strength than American Oaks.
Nowadays Akagashi is a quite rare and expensive even in Japan, and is mostly used for making high quality Bokken.
