What is Jikishin Kage Ryu?

Jikishin Kage Ryu is a Shinkage Ryu based style with heavy emphasis on "Kokyu" or proper coordination of breathing and movement.
Also the style is known for its use of super heavy back breaking "Furibo", some weighing well over 100lbs, for suburi exercise. Working with such heavy Furibo definitely forces one to work on proper coordination of breathing and movement or one can end up with a pretty bad back injury.
This style was one of the most widely practiced Kenjutsu style in late Edo period due to its practicality and modern, effective training methods. Kenkichi Sakakibara and Otani Seiichiro are highly respected swordsmen who mastered and taught Jikishin Kage Ryu in the late Edo period. It is also known that the founder of Daito Ryu Aikijiujutsu, Takeda Sokaku also trained extensively in this school along with Ono-ha Itto Ryu.

5 of 5 New bokken September 7, 2019
Reviewer: Austin Chamblee from Gainesville, GA United States
Every year in our Aikido/ Kenjutsu dojo, we celebrate the month of August as "cut month". Every member must do a minimum of 31,000 bokken cuts as part of training outside of the dojo. The training becomes competitive and many of us use heavy suburito and perform over 100,000 cuts during training. This year I decided to challenge myself with a heavier bokken, so I purchased the Jikishinkage Ryu white oak bokken. This purchase was well worth the money spent. The heavy weight forced me to perfect my strokes and my breathing. Intense training with my new bokken also caused noticeable muscle gain. I named my bokken Shugyo and continue intense training with it daily. Thank you Tozando for producing such a great bokken for me.

5 of 5 Simply the best November 12, 2012
Reviewer: Gianfranco Taormina from La Spezia, La Spezia Italy
Ok, it seems not particularly difficult to make this bokuto, because of his straight shape, but at least it is not so easy.

The quality of this wood is really supreme, you can find it looking at the wood line in the top or at the bottom, almost perfectly straight.

This bokuto is really a big thing, with a weight near to 1.4kg.

The weight is the key for Jikishinkage practice, because you have to train nor your strength but your ki by using a proper breathing.

This bokuto is also well balanced and can help you to improve the proper tenuchi.

Nothing more to say, is unique and perfect, as usual standard for Tozand's high quality products.
