White oak Naginata for kihon (basic drills), engi (paired forms), sparring and shiai (matches). Ha-bu bamboo blade is attached to the E-bu (shaft) with white vinyl tape. Leather caps are fitted as Kissaki (front tip) and Ishizuki (butt).

This our full size model. Compliant with All Japan Naginata Regulations for Shiai (combat) and Engi (technical), the total length is 225cm with 50cm blade length. It is slightly thicker and heavier than the Standard white oak Shiai Naginata.

Modern Sport Naginata was originally devised for Junior and High School girls in Japan. There is no genderwise regulations in Naginata as there is in Kendo, so we make this model perfectly compliant with competition regulations*. This Naginata is designed to accommodate the ever increasing number of tall people and men taking up Naginata, for which the standard size feels sometimes "cramped". In Japan, this new type has been colloquially designed as "Dansei-yo", Naginata "for men". It will suit people above 175cm of height.

Made in Miyakonojo, Kyushu, the heart of Japanese wooden weapon craftsmanship. Only genuine Japanese wood essences are used.

*225cm max. length, 650g min. weight, 50cm blade length, with 15cm overlap and 17cm wrapping.

What is Japanese White Oak?
The White Oak Wood used for Japanese Bokken, also called ' Shirogashi', greatly differs from the White Oak Wood referred to when speaking about North American Bokken.
While the North American Oak and Japanese Oak are related, the Japanese White Oak tree is evergreen, due to this it does not have a conspicuous open grain like the American White and Red Oak.
The open grain structure, of the American Oak wood produces soft areas which are more prone to impact damage.
Shirogashi on the other hand has a structure that is uniformly hard, has excellent dent resistance and has better impact strength than American Oaks.
Compared to Akagashi the Shirogashi has denser grains which also makes it slightly heavier and more preferable as material for Bokken.
Because of the durability and weight of Shirogashi, it's widely regarded as great material for making high quality Bokken and Jo.
