Tozando's Tengu Koshirae Iaito is another fine example of the talismanic Japanese sword. The legends surrounding the mountain Tengu found their way to Japan from China in the sixth and seventh centuries. Over time Tengu were understood to be many different things: They were considered to be mountain divinities, goblins, tricksters, mountain priests that have achieved enlightenment, etc. They harbored tremendous power - both magical and physical - and were even said to be responsible for teaching several of Japan' greatest warriors the martial art they came to disseminate.
Like the swords of old, this Tengu Koshirae Iaito sword, featuring Tengu' face on Fuchi and Karasu Tengu's on Kashira, is designed to house the Tengu and thus his power to protect and to instruct.
