Back by popular demand this is the 4mm version of our Tombo Gold 3mm Yoroigata Bogu Set. Featuring beautiful dark blue tombo inden decorations on the kote, mimikawa and urakawa. The Tombo is a dragonfly that is also known as Kachimushi, a victory-bringing insect and the pattern is often found on weaponry such as Japanese swords, clothing and Yoroi armors. Samurai warriors were very fond of using this insect image because it always flies straight forward and never retreats. The Yoroigata's design is derived from the maginificant and forceful appearance of the yoroi armor worn by the samurai.
This entire set is made using the fit-stitch method of machine stitching giving it a very supple and comfortable fit as well as providing excellent protection. 4mm intervals give a dignified appearance alongside a durable futon that will last through years of practice. Whereas the Tombo Gold is finished with synthetic leather this bogu is reinforced with Orizashi cotton. This keeps it light and breathable, great for kendoka that train in hot climates or need a bogu that can dry quickly.
What is Fit-stitch?
A Fit-stitched Kendo Bogu, is a machine-stitched Bogu which uses a special stitching method called "fit-stitch", commonly called "Nagazashi" in Japanese, that allows the Futon of the Bogu to become more soft and supple, similar to that of a hand-stitched Bogu.
By making the stitches of the sewing machine longer, the Futon is compressed less whilst being sewn; as a result the Futon of the Bogu becomes softer and more flexible thanks to the "fit-stitch" sewing method.

Another great advantage is that a fit-stitched Bogu is more supple and keeps the shape of the Futon much better than a normal machine-stitched Bogu, which means that the Men, Kote and Tare forms better to the body making them very comfortable.
Also, since the Futon is less compressed by the stitches made into the Futon, the Futon is slightly thicker and offers better protection compared to a regular machine-stitched Bogu of the same quality.
Because the Bogu is sewn using a sewing machine, the price of a Fit-stitched Bogu is a lot lower than any hand-stitched Bogu, making them much more affordable for beginners and intermediate Kendoka. They also offer better protection that the regular-style machine-stitched Bogu and are more soft and flexible, making them more comfortable.
Because of this the Fit-stitched Bogu has become one of the main styles of Bogu used by Kendoka these days.
Like all of our bogu, this set comes complete with chichikawa, himo and a tenugui as well as Free International Shipping and our 3-year bogu guarantee.
