What is Yakumaru Jigen Ryu?

Yakumaru Jigen Ryu, also called Yakumaru Ryu or Nodachi Jigen Ryu, descended from Jigen Ryu, as it's founder Yakumaru Kenchin was a senior student of Tougo Shigetaka who was said to have founded Jigen Ryu. After learning Jigen Ryu, Yakumaru Kenchin combined his knowledge of Jigen Ryu with the Nodachi techniques that had been passed down in his family and created the Yakumaru Jigen Ryu style. This is why Yakumaru Jigen Ryu uses the same fundamental principles as Jigen Ryu, although it takes on a different appearance, the fundamental sword techniques are the same is in Jigen Ryu.
Compared to Jigen Ryu, Yakumaru Jigen Ryu claims that it has simplified, selected and intensified the techniques to make them more effective. The techniques are fast and strong, focusing on offense, leaving nothing to defense. The style focuses on preemptive attacks with one deceive strike, leaving no need for a second strike. If they for some reason would get ambushed, the only choice of action was to strike faster than the opponent and hit first or to strike fast and heavily to overpower your opponent. This is why Yakumaru Jigen Ryu also includes Battojutsu techniques called "Nuki", in which the sword draw actually turns into a deadly and swift strike. Combined with the techniques which has been refined to be used with large and heavy Nodachi swords, the destructive power is said to be unrivaled among Koryu Kenjutsu styles.
