Hattori Hanzo (1542 - 1596), also known as Hattori Masanari, was a famous Samurai of the Warring States era. Born a vassal of the Matsudaira (later Tokugawa) clan, and served Tokugawa Ieyasu; he would later earn the nickname Oni-Hanzo, Hanzo the Demon, because of the fearless tactics he displayed in his operations.

Hanzo was an extremely skilled swordsman, tactician and spearman and fought his first battle at the age of 16, went on to serve at the battles of Anegawa (1570) and Mikatagahara (1572), but his most valuable contribution came in 1582, following Oda Nobunaga's death.

To this day, artifacts of Hanzo's legacy remain; the Tokyo Imperial Palace still has a gate called Hanzo Gate, and the Hanzo-mon subway line which runs from central Tokyo to the southwestern suburbs is named after the gate. Hanzo remains now rest in the Sainen-ji temple cemetery in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The temple also holds his favorite spears and his ceremonial battle helmet.

This Hattori Hanzo Koshirae is the reproduction of his best favorite sword, Kobizen Kanehira. The sand-casted, extra-reinforced zinc/aluminim alloy blade features the typical Kanehira's double Suguha Hamon. The Koshirae fitting is extraordinary. The Saya end features the extra big, barrel type O-jiri metal ornament and it has the traditional Tsuchime finish, that is, a hammered pattern design. The Fuchi/Kashira set is made of copper with Eboshi(formal headwear for court nobles in Japan) and has the Tsuchime finish as the O-jiri. With the Hanzo's fighting spirit in mind, the large metal Koiguchi reinforcement is also featured. The metal Koiguchi is made of copper and has the Tsuchime finish, too. Saya is black matte finish(Kuroishime). Available in 2.45 Shaku only.

On lui donnera plus tard le surnom de Oni-Hanzo ou "Hanzo le démon"  en raison des tactiques audacieuses qu'il employait pour ses combats. Il fut un guerrier hors-pair, trés doué dans l'art du sabre comme dans celui de la lance et ce grand tacticien participa à son premier combat alors qu'il n'avait que 16 ans. Il combattit dans les batailles de Anegawa en 1570 et de Mikaragahara en 1572, mais la plus grande de ses contributions fut en 1582 suite à la mort d'Oda Nobunaga.  

Aujourd'hui encore, de nombreux vestiges de Hanzo sont visibles au Japon comme par exemple un portail portant son nom au Palais Impérial de Tokyo ou encore le nom de la ligne de métro "Hanzo-mon" reliant Tokyo à ses banlieues sud.

Cette Hattori Hanzo Koshirae est la reproduction de sa lame favorite, Kobizen Kanehira.

> Le Hamon est typique du styke Kanehiora ; il s'agit d'un double Hamon Suguha.
> La Saya comporte un O-jiri en metal de type baril et la finition de la laque est Tsuchime. Il en va de même pour le Koiguchi qui est en cuivre et utilise également cette finition Tsuchime.
> La laque de la Saya est noire mate (Kuroishime).
> Lame uniquement disponible avec une longueur de 2,45 Shaku (74 cm) - Tsuka de 8,5 Sun (26 cm).
> Le poids sans la Saya est de 910 grammes.

Ce sabre possède une superbe balance grâce à un alliage renforcé de zinc et d’alluminium.

Chaque élément de ce sabre est soigneusement assemblé à la main par les experts-forgerons aussi en charge de la fabrication de Shinken (vraies lames japonaises).
