Information Technical Specs.

This Deluxe Sunuke Bokken is made of high quality dense and hard Sunuke wood. A Bokken made of Sunuke wood is approximately 20% heavier than standard White Oak Bokken. This deluxe model features a curved spine and rounded butt for more realistic Shinken feeling when training. Available in Long, Middle and Short versions.
This Long model is recommended for Suburi and general Kata practice.

What is Sunuke?

Sunuke wood comes from a tree that is officially called "Isu no ki" or the Japanese Isu tree.
Only the wood that comes from trees that are 250-400 years old is called 'Sunuke'. Therefore, although a great deal of care and attention goes into their production, it is naturally not possible for all Sunuke Bokken to be exempt from small imperfections. In Japan these ‘imperfections’ are generally considered to be a sign that the Bokken is indeed the genuine article, and therefore are preferred by some over Bokken which are without marks.
While the Isu wood which comes from the younger trees, is known for it's beautiful color gradation, Sunuke is know for it's dark, Chocolate-like color which gives it a charm of it's own.
In terms of hardness and weight, it could be said to be one of, if not the best materials available in Japan. However, because of it's hardness, it does not have much flexibility which makes it unsuitable for sparring and contact training.
The older the tree is, the more expensive the Sunuke wood becomes, and in the last few years, this material has become quite rare, it's said that maybe we will not be able get our hands at Bokken made out of this material in a not too far off future.

MYSTICAL June 16, 2016
Reviewer: Victor Manuel Carrasco Baeza from Perote, Veracruz Mexico
By far this is the most beautiful Bokuto ever. Besides its marvelous technical and functional qualities, it is indeed an astonishing piece of wood craftsmanship. My own has the most peculiar marks and striking as well, making it one of a kind. And the most curious thing, when unpacking, I was embraced by the beautiful forest scent stamped all over, it was beyond experience. This gorgeous Bokuto its truly meant for those whom truly appreciate such Artwork. Thank you so much Tozando and Aramaki Workshop for making me a happy owner of this little piece of tradition at last since 9 years of Iaido Practice. Greetings and salutations from México!!

Outstanding! December 3, 2014
Reviewer: Santiago B. Tejada from Margate, Florida United States
Outstanding delivery service: when I was expecting it to arrive shortly before Christmas holidays, it made it to my door two week earlier.
Outstanding product: although not a multicolored grain I desired, it still is an awesomely beautiful  bokken. Time to try it out. That is what it is for, despite of getting it scratched :-(
I would personally recommend Tozando to drop in a tsuba even if a plastic one... ;-)

Sunuke Bokken July 16, 2013
Reviewer: Brian Kenendy from Dublin, Ireland
Received this bokken last week The color is beautiful. it has a good weight to it to so I will be using it for solo practice. Dont want it getting damaged. The only problem is it got dented on the handle at some point before  received it, which is an awful shame, as this bokken is good enough to display.
