Information Technical Specs.
This Standard Isu Bokken is made of quality Isu wood which grows in southern Japan and features a flat spine and flat butt.
This long model is recommended for Aikido and Koryu pracitioner for suburi and general paired contact kata practice.

What is Isu?

Isu wood comes from a tree that is officially called "Isu no ki".
Isu no Ki produces a exotic hardwood which can be split into Isu and Sunuke wood and can mainly be found south of Kyushu islands.
This wood is characterized by the fine grains and the warm and charming coloration, which ranges from a light creamy color to the dark chocolate color of Sunuke, gives it a feeling of exquisiteness. Isu is a hard wood, however, due to it's nature as a young wood, it's more prone to dents and damage due to impact, which is why it's not recommended for intense contact practice.
In the last few years, this material has become more and more rare, especially Sunuke which is extremely heavy and hard, and is mostly used to make high quality Bokken. Since it is both relatively hard and heavy, a lot of practitioners use Bokken made of this material for Kata practice in Japan.

The bokken feels very smooth, solid and well balanced. It took just 3 days to get from tokyo to Italy. I was very impressed.
I ordered two at once, and I paid 27€ of taxes !

Beautiful and Balanced March 10, 2017
Reviewer: Michelle Sauls from Highland, Michigan United States
This is a beautiful bokken at a fantastic price. I practice aikido and wanted a bokken for practicing kata at home, but didn't want to break the bank and didn't want a "cheap" bokken that would break easily. This fit the bill. It's outstanding quality - solid, hard wood, smooth finish, perfect weight and balance... and for $40 you can't go wrong.

I'd also like to mention that this arrived at my house in America literally two days after ordering. That's faster shipping than most US companies! I'm 110% impressed with the product and service.

Smooth and Balanced. August 24, 2016
Reviewer: R.E.G. from Italy
The bokken feels smooth and is really well balanced.
It's a bit lighter than the other Red Oak ones (about 100 gr more or less), but it does not matter in the end.
For the price, you can't get any better bokken.

P.S.: Fastest shipping I have ever seen: took 2 days from Kyoto to get in Italy.

Good raw material and finish February 25, 2010
Reviewer: Ricardo Ordoñez from Leioa, Bizkaia Spain
The bokken feels soft and well balanced, uniform wood grains. Only mish a tsuba which matches colour, perhaps made from same material

Great reasonably priced item January 22, 2010
Reviewer: Xeroz from Lufkin, Texas United States
I am very pleased with this item. It's reasonably priced and made in Japan, so you know you're getting quality. Very decent weight to it. Comes already lacquered, giving it a very natural color. I expect if there are any US retailers selling these that they won't come close to this, for the price its sold here. Even with the shipping, which is reasonable (considering I got mine within 5 days of placing the order), its still a very decent price.  Save some money and order a few at once.  If I'm ever in the market for another one of these I'll definitely buy from here again.

Also, if you want the little round guard thing that goes between the handle and blade, be sure to pick up the Tsuba and Tsubadome.
The Tsuba is the round thing and the Tsubadome is the rubber piece that holds the Tsuba in place.
They sell them both here for only a few bucks. The one I got fit very nicely. Just be sure you're ordering the right one to fit the Bokken you're buying.
