Maeda Keiji, a.k.a. Maeda Toshimasu was, was a Japanese samurai of the Sengoku Period through early Edo Period. Keiji was born to the Takigawa Clan of Owari, originally the son of Takigawa Kazumasu. He was adopted by Maeda Toshihisa, the older brother of Maeda Toshiie. While in Kyoto, Keiji met and befriended Naoe Kanetsugu and the two became close friends. When the Tokugawa challenged the Uesugi in 1600, he fought with Uesugi�fs army. In the battle against the Mogami, he broke through the enemy lines with only eight riders, and shattered their formation. After the Uesugi clan's move to the Yonezawa Domain, Toshimasu remained with them, serving as a retainer.

Pendant sont séjour à Kyoto, Keiji rencontra et sympathisa avec Naoe Kanetsugu et tous deux devinrent bon amis. Quand les Tokugawa s’attaquèrent aux Uesugi en 1600, il combattit sous l’armée d’Uesugi. Durant la bataille contre les Mogami, il perça les lignes ennemies avec seulement huit cavaliers, et décima leur formation. Après que le clan Uesugi se soit déplacé vers le domaine Yonezawa, Toshimasu resta avec eux en tant que serviteur.
