Reviving Kyoto Swords

Tozando’s custom made Suzaku Iaito—sword for Iaido—looks, feels, and weighs the same as a live blade (Shinken). A big feature of our Suzaku blades is that they are not made from the usual sand casting method used for producing most imitation swords. Instead, we adopted a special reinforced GT metal blade made through highly precise gravity casting.

Special reinforcement GT metal was especially developed for our blades. Not only are they balanced better than diecast blades, they are highly functional and the best quality available for Iaido. Furthermore, gravity casting produces superior blades to sand casting with much fewer defects. The excellence in quality is evident in the attention to detail on every section of the blade, giving the holder the profound feeling of actually holding a real sword instead of an imitation. The blades also feature hi grooves and Marudome curves exactly as they would be on a live blade. Tozando’s Suzaku custom Iaito swords take into account the finest details when it comes to the fittings (Koshirae).

The various components in Tozando’s Suzaku custom Iaito swords have not just simply been assembled in Kyoto. The blades and Habaki are manufactured in Kyoto, as are the Sageo chords and Tsuka-maki binding on the handles. Each piece is handcrafted with the kind of detail and beauty that exemplifies Kyoto’s rich history of craftsmanship. The binding is a vital element on swords, and we use only the best binders, and their intricately fashioned Tsukamaki can be used on real swords. In fact, that is what the are made for. Our staff at Tozando are also high ranking Iaido practitioners, and you can trust them to take care of any needs and requests for our quality-conscious customers.

You will be able to tell the difference between Tozando’s custom made Suzaku Iaito sword and standard imitation swords as soon as you take one to hand. Our quality swords are not only praised as the best in the business by practitioners of Iaido and Battodo, but also have a fantastic reputation as props in samurai movies. People who are thinking of getting their own sword, and those who already have one, be sure to try out a Tozando custom made Suzaku Iaito sword.
