Alternative Views:	Maeda Toshimasu, better known as Maeda Keiji, was a Japanese samurai of the Civil War Period through early Edo Period. When the Tokugawa challenged the Uesugi in 1600, he fought with Uesugi�fs army. In the battle against the Mogami, he broke through the enemy lines with only eight riders, and shattered their formation. After the Uesugi clan's move to the Yonezawa Domain, Toshimasu remained with them, serving as a retainer. The Tensho style Fuchi/Kashira is made of brass and finished in antique silver style.. Tsuba is extra big and heavy and features theme of an eagle on pine tree to recall Maeda Keiji�fs favorite horse, Matsukaze(literally meaning pine tree and wind). Menuki is made of silver and features the big dragon. Tsuka is bound with blue cotton cord over red-lacquered stingray skin and Saya is Shuro(vermilion gloss finish). Sageo is a hand-woven Sanadahimo cord with sophisticated two-tone color. The extra wide blade is made of sand-cased, reinforced zinc/aluminum alloy and provides the superb balance for the dynamic air-slashing move. Hamon pattern reproduces the Kanemoto. Each parts are uncompromisingly hand-assembled by the Japanese sword craftsman, who is expert in making the genuine Japanese sword, Shinken.
