What is Kurama Ryu?

Kurama Ryu
is said to be of direct descendent of Kyo-Hachi Ryu, or the 8 styles which originated in Kyoto at the end of 12th century. Little is known about its founder, Ohno Shokan as the records was lost during WW2.
The style became widely known when the 15th head master, Shibata Emori became the Kenjutsu instructor for the Japanese metropolitan police and one of the Kurama Ryu techniques,"Henka"was adopted as one of the 10 Kenjutsu kata officially practiced by Japanese metropolitan police force known as "Keishi Ryu". "Henka", commonly known as "Makiotoshi" by modern Kendo practitioners is definitely one of the most sophisticated and effective technique in the Japanese Kenjutsu arsenal. The style is currently active in Tokyo area.
