Information Technical Specs.

This is one of the most elegant Bokken you can buy! Each Bokken of this model is handmade by the renowned master craftsman Mr. Aramaki using time consuming and traditional methods for Japanese woodcrafting.
This Deluxe Grooved African Ebony Bokken is made of very limited and rare African wood and features a curved spine and rounded but for a more realistic Shinken feeling when training. This model comes with a groove which gives it great feedback when it cuts through the air, and it also comes fitted with a Tsuba which is also made of African Ebony. To finish things up, this Bokken is hand rubbed a oil finish, making it a true piece of art.
The Grooved African Ebony Deluxe Bokken is great for Suburi or as a decoration. But this Bokken is not recommended for contact training due to the brittle nature of this material. Available in Long and Short versions.

What is African Ebony?

As the name suggests this wood comes from a tree originated mainly in Africa, and the South East Asia. The usual wood that comes from this tree has a color gradation that goes from jet black to dark brown. However, rarely there is some wood that is completely black. African Ebony is very strong and dense, however, since the fibers are not as strong as for example White Oak, which makes it brittle and so it's not recommended for full contact training.
Being extremely dense and hard, the trees that produce this wood takes a long time to grow, it's said that to it takes around 200 years for the tree to reach a diameter of 20 cm. This is why it is said that in the near-future, there will be no way to get your hands on a Bokken made of this material.
Because of this wood being extremely rare and also because of the high price, it's mostly used for viewing or decoration because of the beauty of the naturally black wood.
